Kim Guzzone Collier explores the biology and mythology of plants and their pollinators. Her paintings include the native flowers, birds and bugs that live in North Florida as well as exotic plants used as either a universal language or to tell specific cultural stories. As a painter, KGC works from observing her outdoor environment. She draws from her flower beds and wild backyard woods to capture their garden drama. She collects floral designs found on mass produced, decorative papers, ephemera and textiles that are common and familiar. At the same time, she studies myths, legends and floriography, the language expressed with plants. As an artist who gardens, KGC encourages the viewer to plant more natives and to protect the natural world.
