I am a native of Florida who began as a textile designer inspired by the imagery found in wallpaper, fabrics and decorative papers. My work is about the daily scenes that unfold in my ever-changing yard full of plants and animals. I am interested in the lives of birds, insects, weeds and flowers which may seem short and insignificant, but they mirror human relationships and characteristics. I spend time everyday working in the garden and then I re-create the story by painting in the studio using bold colors, patterns, textures and lines like the ones I admire in textiles and decorative papers.
Some of my accomplishments include being chosen as A New Face for a New Decade by Florida Craftsman, two-time Teacher of the Year as a high school art teacher, having artwork in the collection of the City of Orlando, national winner of the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation award, and being juried into state and national art shows. My studio is located at CORK Art District in Jacksonville.
