Kim Guzzone Collier explores the life and mythology of plants and their pollinators. Her paintings include the native plants, birds and bugs that live in North Florida as well as exotic plants that are used both as a universal language and to tell specific cultural stories. As a painter, KGC works from observing her outdoor environment. She draws from her flower beds and wild backyard woods to capture its garden drama. She collects floral designs found on mass produced, decorative papers, ephemera and textiles that are familiar. At the same time, she studies myths and legends that feature plants and floriography, the language expressed with flowers. As an artist who gardens, KGC encourages everyone to plant more natives and to appreciate and protect the natural world.
